Royal Sandringham Estate
Built in 1870 by the Prince and Princess of Wales, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, Sandringham was once described as 'The most comfortable house in England'. It has been passed down as a private home through four generations of British monarchs and is now the country retreat of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
Houghton Hall
One of the finest examples of Palladian architecture in England, Houghton Hall was built in the 1720's for Sir Robert Walpole, the first prime minister of Great Britain. The original designs were by James Gibbs and Colen Campbell, with interior decoration by William Kent. The house has been restored to its former grandeur, with magnificent staterooms containing many of their original furnishings.
